Chef Fabio Viviani, a former "Top Chef" fan favorite, expands his jarred dessert concept into Johnson County with a new location in Overland Park. Jars by Fabio Viviani will open at 4937 W. 119th St. in the Hawthorne Plaza shopping center, marking the brand's debut in the Kansas City metro. This single-serve sweets shop arrives as dessert trends shift toward portable, indulgent treats in convenient packaging.
Filling a Vacant Spot in Hawthorne Plaza
The new shop occupies a space previously held by Bingbox, a soft serve ice cream outlet that shuttered in fall 2023. Situated at the west end of Hawthorne Plaza, Jars will sit alongside André’s Confiserie Suisse, a Swiss confectionery, and PAINT Nail Bar. This positioning taps into a retail hub that draws steady foot traffic for casual shopping and treats, enhancing the center's appeal with diverse quick-service options.
Jarred Desserts Redefine Single-Serve Indulgence
Jars specializes in layered desserts packed into jars, offering flavors such as tres leches cake, chocolate s’mores, blueberry cheesecake, and salted caramel pecan pie. Each serving delivers a compact portion of Viviani's culinary style, blending familiar comforts with precise execution. Viviani, who competed on Bravo’s "Top Chef" for two seasons, draws from his experience across multiple restaurants nationwide to craft these portable sweets.
First Kansas City Outpost Fuels Metrowide Growth
Johnson County gains the brand's inaugural shop in the region, following the original Chicago location that launched in early 2023. Two more stores operate in Fort Worth, Texas, and Laguna Niguel, California, with plans for additional sites in Kansas City, Texas, and California. This expansion reflects rising demand for chef-driven desserts that prioritize convenience amid busy lifestyles, positioning Jars to capture local dessert enthusiasts in a competitive market.
